Club Overview
The ArcelorMittal Dofasco Figure Skating Club offers a variety of programs designed to help skaters of all ages and abilities develop their skills in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. Programs run on Thursdays and Saturdays and include Pre-CanSkate,
CanSkate, PreSTAR/STAR, and Special Olympics sessions. All lessons are taught in small groups by our team of Skate Canada-certified coaches.
Programs Offered
Pre-CanSkate (Ages 3–5)
This program is designed for young first-time skaters who are not yet ready for the full CanSkate program. Pre-CanSkate introduces basic skating skills such as falling down, getting up, marching, and gliding, all taught through fun and engaging activities that build confidence onthe ice.
- For first-time skaters aged 3 to 5
- Focus on safety and comfort on the ice
- Taught in a play-based, group setting
CanSkate (Ages 5+)
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship “learn-to-skate” program for beginners of any age. It focuses on developing the fundamental skating skills of Agility, Balance, and Control through structured group lessons.
- For skaters aged 5 and older
- Skaters work through CanSkate stages 1–4
- Lessons delivered using fun circuits and games
PreSTAR / STAR 1–2
This program is for skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 4 and are beginning their journey into figure skating. It emphasizes more advanced skills and introduces elements such as edges, turns, spins, and jumps.
- For skaters in CanSkate stages 5–6 and STAR 1–2
- Delivered through skill-based circuits and small group instruction
- Prepares skaters for independent practice and competition
Special Olympics Skating
This adaptive program is designed for skaters with intellectual or developmental disabilities, offering instruction from the learn-to-skate level through to competitive levels.

The ArcelorMittal Dofasco Figure Skating Club 2026-2027 season will run from Thursday September 26th 2026 – Saturday March 27th 2027 offering the following sessions:
Thursdays
- Pre-CanSkate @ 5:00pm-5:30pm
- CanSkate A @ 5:30pm-6:15pm
- CanSkate B @ 6:15pm-7:00pm
- Special Olympics @ 7:15pm-8:15pm
Saturdays
- Pre-CanSkate @ 10:15am-10:45am
- Pre-CanSkate@ 10:45am-11:15am
- CanSkate @11:15am-12:00pm
- Pre-Star/Star @12:15pm-1:30pm

Refund Policy
Refunds to be requested in writing and presented to the Skating Club Executive for approval. Refunds must be requested before the third (3rd) ice session. Medical refunds must be submitted in writing and presented to the Skating Club Executive for approval. The request must include a medical note advising of the date of the skater’s injury/withdrawal and anticipated return to the ice date. Refunds will be considered for missed sessions exceeding 3 missed sessions. A clearance note will be required to the ice following any injury requiring refunded sessions.
Helmet Policy
Skate Canada requires that all CanSkate skaters, up to and including Stage 5, wear a CSA certified hockey helmet that has a sticker indicating CSA certification.
Only CSA approved hockey helmets are permitted – no bike, ski, or other helmet types. Cages are also strongly recommended.
Skaters without proper helmets will not be permitted on the ice. “
